02 mondeo tdci injector change

Featured Replies

hi all, i have a 2002 mondeo tdci zetec 130 manual, it lacks a little power, though still drives quite well. My mechanic hooked up his computer to the ECU and tells me the no.3 injector is out. Are these hard to change? should i try having it cleaned, or should i try an injector cleaner first?

cheers

You have to reconditon them, cleaning is pointless IMO.

if number three injector was out your car would run like a 40year old tractor, do you know the fault code that led your mechanic to this conclusion ?,

not sure of fault code number. In fairness im going by word of mouth of previous owner. Im told recalibrating may be the best option. Can this only be done by ford or can any competent garage do this? Would you recommend a fuel injector cleaner before i spend money on a new injector?

cheers

Just go to Ford garage they will check that for you.It will cost you about £60 and they will tell you what is wrong.

I have this problem myself, it developed from a lumpy idle a few weeks ago then I was heading down to London (from Suffolk) and it went into limp home mode (coil light flashing). Took it to John Grose near home (about 70 miles on limp home mode) to discover code 0251 - fuel injector pressure fault. Turns out 3 of my injectors are leaking but the car is still driveable but with nasty misfires on acceleration. I had the fuel filter changed to balance things ready for the big job I knew was coming! Which actually caused more misfires when I picked it up from Grose!. Took it to Diesco (Diesel Specialist) down the road and its booked in for Wednesday for (another) diagnosis, looks like an expensive overhaul which I was expecting and not wanting to go through. They are charging around £125 per injector + labour costs if thats the case (certainly beats John Grose's quote of £323 per unit!)Looking (if the diagnosis proves the worst) a bill of anywhere between £600-£1000! What a kick in the pants :(
