Engine temperatures 1.8 tdci

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 1.8 tdci mk2.5 Zetec, long story short I took it for a blast this evening to charge up the battery. It was about 2degrees outside and I was doing 70 on the dual carriageway for well on half an hour.  I had the heater off and the car was in test mode, only electrics on were the dipped headlights. Even when booting it in 4th uphill on a long straight the temperature wouldn't go above 77degrees. The engine was getting worked hard. Is this too cold? I have a blanked egr. Or does it sound about right, I have never seen it above 80 degrees  even in warmer weather.

In test mode is the temp reading oil temp or water temp? Always wondered if 5w30 is the best grade for a tdci with a blanked egr if it's running cooler than it should.
