brake pad warning light

Many brake pads have one or more small brass pins (or rivets) embedded in the friction material. When the brake pads are worn and a minimum of friction material is left the brass pin touches the brake disc and cause a sqeaking noise when braking. This is an indication the brake pads need to be changed. If you ignore this there will soon be no friction material left.
