Reversing Camera

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I was just wondering if anyone had successfully retrofitting a reversing camera into their vehicle with the stock Headunit? (Focus MK3.0 Titanium - NON SONY)

If so, how was it done?

The rear view camera can only be retrofitted if the car has the 4.2 Inch (Sony) or 5 Inch (Sat Nav) full color display (FCDIM) which has the camera input connector. Some full color displays do not have the camera input connector and are not suitable.

The rear view camera system has a CANbus module which unlocks the camera input of the display. This module only unlocks the camera input if an original camera is connected. This way the system can only be retrofitted using original parts. Parts of this system are expensive. All needed parts (new) will cost approximately €1000,- (used parts are pretty rare).

Another possibiliy is to install an aftermarket module to unlock the camera input of the display. Some clever Russians (www.ucdsys.ru) developed a module which can be used. This module can a be used combined with any cheap chinese aftermarket camera.

Do you have any more information on this? or has anyone created a guide with a list of parts?
