Need help with 2.0L Zetec throttle bodies (non-electronic)

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm new here - please be gentle :)

I've recently come into ownership of a 2003 Ford Maverick XLT with the 2.0L Zetec. It's got a sticky throttle body which is annoying, and although I've pulled it out and cleaned it as best I can, the stickiness hasn't gone. I know that we're not supposed to clean plastic Ford throttle bodies, but buying a new replacement isn't on the cards - they're on back-order and cost £550, which is about half the value of the car.

The parts department at my dealership is adamant that the Maverick TB doesn't interchange with anything else, but I've had a scan through the various 2.0L Zetec plastic TBs on eBay, for Mondeos and Focuses, and many of them look absolutely identical to my Maverick one in every detail.

I obviously don't have actual measurements to compare, but how much do 2.0L Zetec top-mounted throttle bodies actually vary from the late 90s/early 00s? Are there numerous different sizes and different attachments to the intake manifold?

I'm new to Fords (I've come from the Jeep world) so any advice will be gratefully received...
