Ford Fiesta 2009 manual keys won't open car door

Featured Replies

My son (just passed test) has just this week got a (18000 miles only) 2009 Fiesta Zetec.      Although the remote chip key works, neither the remote key shaft or the manual second key will OPEN the door when placed in the lock.  They can lock the door, but the keys refuse to turn anti-clockwise to open.   It is mechanical it seems rather than anything to do with the chip.  A squirt of WD40 makes no difference.   He drives a long way to work and I hate the situation of not being able to open the door with the key shaft if the remote fails.     I know enough about cars but have not experienced a modern Ford before.  I wondered if there was some peculiarity about Fords that you CANNOT unlock them manually?

Ideas welcome?    Thanks.

sounds like a worn barrel. You can buy new barrels and replace them, and also code them to the key yourself, but it is a bit fiddly
