stupid stretchy aux belt help please

Featured Replies

So i got the water pump on and all the rest of the engine is back together now I have to put the aux belt back on. Its a stupid stretchy poly belt design by continental. It fits over except it needs to be stretched so the tension is right trouble is the little silver clamp tool sucks as does the stretchy belt idea and have since given up with the tool.

How can i install this stretchy V belt without the use of a crazy tool that slips off the pulley when i get to the 8 o clock position.

Cheers

Ryan

What tool are you using? they can be a fiddle but once you've done a few you get a nack for it. I've fitted and removed them with a screwdriver in the past without damage so i think you just need to keep trying.

yep, keep trying.

well it would seem that after listening to this guy (watching not listening dont understand him) I have been doing it wrong. The manual itself is like put it here then there but says nothing about holding the metal tool in place while you turn the engine in a sense. Stupid manual leaflets. Would you guys advise i do it with the wheel off? I have somehow fitted the water pump without jacking or removal of a wheel :)

Cheers

Ryan

Definately take the wheel off for easier access.. I ruined the metal tool that comes with the belt, and in anger I used a 1/2" extension bar to lever it on :)

I did it with a small poundland crowbar lol, special tool pfft....

But yeah I'd do it from underneath, don't think I took the wheel off though.

thanks guys for all of your help. Im popping outside now to give it a go.

Also could anyone tell me if a Bosch S4 battery is any good. i picked it up at my local GSF. Was around £90 got it for £50 with my discounts.

Cheers

Ryan

It can be frustrating Ryan but stick with it. As already said its going to be much easier with wheel off.

And yes Bosch S4 batteries are good.

I had the Bosch S5 battery on my mk6 I believe. Amazing difference

I only noticed it due to the power I could pull with my audio. It was set up so the sound would maintain quality & balance through the power/volume & frequency range. Hence once up full (only ever did it 3 times haha) it pulled some serious juice for a single battery.

On the old battery, the interior lights would dim & flash (they were LED too...)

On the S5 there was nothing of the sort

On the standard car all I can say is that the car started when I wanted it to
