Misfire help

Featured Replies

hey all its me yet again with another car issue. God im beginning to think i should just rebuild the whole car at this rate :D

Anyway I changed the water pump installed a new gasket and used some gasket seal on the water pump to secure the gasket to the pump as per the normal installation.

i then with a lot of hours, blood and frustration installed the new aux drive belt (Stretchy thing)

I also changed all four spark plugs

Now my car is misfiring on cylinder 2. Never did it before the above fixes. The car shakes a bit and an OBD 2 code reader gave off the code for cylinder misfire at cylinder 2.

The spark plug boots on all 4 cylinders had some brown dusting on them. I cleaned this out. There is also some brown liquid looking stuff around all the spark plug area. Cant quite stick a finger in there to smell it and feel its consistency.

I did drop a spark plug but not sure which one. Can't remember which one but it fell out of the box and hit my carpet. Didnt think anything of it though.

The timing belt was not touched at all only the cover itself was removed to remove the water pump. The belt for timing was on the pulleys at all times.

Any ideas what could be wrong.

Cheers

Ryan

Almost forgot to add the car hadnt been started for about 2 weeks and i changed out the battery from original to a Bosch S4 which was out of the car for 2 days.

Check the leads are plugged in tight.  Should hear a 'pop' when it goes on.

If that's good, swap the spark plug in no.2 with another one and see if the misfire moves.

hey there

thank you for your advice tomsfocus. Turns out that the car itself was just relearning all the fuel / air mixtures and so forth. After about 3 -5 minutes on idle it stopped shaking and misfiring. I turned it off in case and restarted it, plugged in the OB2 scanner and all was fine.

Thanks for your support and help. Now to fix these silly dents and get the car looking nice.

Cheers

Ryan
