Rear dome light does not turn on - trunk door switch?

Featured Replies

hello everyone, recently I have noticed that rear dome light does not turn on every time I open the trunk, in last couple of days there was no rear dome light at all. I have checked the light manually and its OK, I can turn it on using the light switch but looks like that trunk light switch is not giving contact for the light any more.

Focus is MK2 Wagon like this one

and I dont know where is switch located, probably its behind the trunk door plastics but I dont know how to remove it, no screws, should I pull it? Or to spray some contact spray on the trunk door lock? What do to guys?

Thanks !

The circuit for the door ajar warning light seems to come from the same switch as the rear dome lamp, but uses the other side of a changeover contact. Check that the warning light works, if not then the tailgate switch must be broken or worn.

There should be bolts in the tailgate handle (interior) recesses. Then the trim panel should come of exposing the switch.

Hello Peter, thank you very much for your time!

When I read your post I was thinking, what a brilliant system to determine is the problem in the switch of the rear dome light - to check are there warning light when I open up the trunk, but when I tested that I discovered that even there is a signal - red light with message door open - on the trip computer rear dome light does not turn on. :(

I have checked the switch at the dome light - seems to be ok, left position turn the light on, right position is always off and middle position should turn on the light when the trunk is open, but no luck there :(

In my focus there is no interior handle for the trunk, I can open it just from the outside. On the inside I have just a plastic that cover inside of the trunk door and trunk lock.

Thanks for your time and knowledge !

The recesses are not really handles, just recesses that are used to help pull the lid shut, especially if you are not tall.

On the inside, near the bottom of the tailgate.
