Radiator Coolant Plug leaks. Cant find another anywhere

Featured Replies

Well hello guys as the title says I have a rather large problem. I changed the coolant in the car today and to my dismay the coolant is leaking from the coolant drain plug.

I have searched high and low on the internet and have so far come back with zero results. Is it even possible to buy one or will i need a whole new radiator?

Cheers

Ryan

Hiya Ryan,

It could be a missing rubber washer from the drain plug, not done mine so i may be wrong & others could chime in? In the meantime try wrapping PTFE tape around the threaded part of the drain plug,it may last 5 minutes or 5 years. If it fails you will be able to get a new one from the Dealers.

Thanks for your help. I will try PTFE and hope it works otherwise its a trip to the local ford garage to pay through the nose for a plug and washer :)

Cheers

Ryan

Maybe a little advice, whenever I change coolant or need to drop it for whatever reason, I always pull one of the hoses and never touch the drain plug - they never do seem to seal properly again and I've read enough stories on here of it happening to those who do.

If you do use PTFE tape, use plenty.   Use a bit more than you think you need.   I'd be surprised if the tape doesn't cure the leak.
