Light in Glovebox - Ideas

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm after some ideas. I'm wanting to put a light into the glovebox with doing a lot of night driving it's a pain to see where anything is, especially with the other half putting a load of rubbish in there. How would you guys suggest putting on it? I was thinking about maybe connecting it to the interior light but then whenever I open the door it would be on and of course be pointless and seems to be on a board for the switch... So how would you guys go about doing this?

I'd fit a sticky back led strip to the roof of the Glovebox on a rocker switch with an inline fuse for safety,

I'd then wire it in to the interior dash light supply, this way the light can only become active when your driving lights have been turned on; eliminating risk of battery drain when parked etc.

a good place to purchase automotive cable and switches is from AutoStar on eBay👍

Perhaps install a usb socket in the glovebox while you have it out, ideal for charging the phone or powering the SatNav without cables running across the centre console.

a Haynes manual for your vehicle will tell you what colour cables you need to tap in to for desired effects.

I'd buy the light fitting that comes standard on later fiestas either from ford or a breakers (it's a bulb holder and switch combined)

wiring might already be there behind the dash, if not connect it to the fusebox with a mini piggyback fuseholder and theres a screw just above the fusebox to use as an earth.

Sounds great,

I wasn't aware a factory option was later available; that would be the best way to go for clean finish.

Thanks guys, though after a long hard think I don't think I'll be keeping the car. I have posted a thread in the ford chat. Thank you anyway.
