Key Help

Featured Replies

I have two keys to my car and have always left one in the wife's handbag in case I loose mine etc..

The key as always worked fine but the other day when it was chucking it down she got to the car before me but the key was dead?

Thought it may of been the battery gone flat with not using it so replaced that, but still no joy..

It opens with it in the lock and will start the car fine but the remote side is dead,,, I was just wondering if there is a reprogramming I have got to do? my key still works fine..

Thanks

Stu

Thanks Mike..

Ive managed to sort it now..

If it's any help to anyone else in the future you turn the key from position 0 to 2 (off to ignition) 4 times,,, you have to do this quick though as it needs to be done within 6 seconds..

You then hear a beep,, you then have a further 10 seconds to press any button on the fob.. That's it, job done

May be of some help to someone?

Its in the manual about coding additional keys, you do however need more than 1 I believe for it to work - usually an issue if you lose a spare key and only have 1 left.

The manual is not clear about the need for two keys.

This is from the Focus manual, but most of these Fords seem the same:

It advises closing doors & fastening seat-belts to avoid conflicting chimes.

1) Turn Ignition (from position 0) to position 2 (Ign. On) four times in six seconds. Turn key to position 0. A tone indicates it is now possible to programme controls for 10 seconds. (I think this ten seconds may be extended each time you programme a key).

2) Press any button on the new control. A tone will sound (this should confirm key battery ok). Repeat this step for all your controls, including the original (if you have more than one) Do not remove key from ignition while doing this.

3) Switch ignition back on (Pos 2) or wait ten seconds. Only the controls you have just programmed will now unlock/lock the vehicle.

----

In section 2 it implies that you need to press a new (or reset due to battery removal) key first, then your original working one. But it is not clear, it may well work with one.

Has anyone tried it with a working key (ie not "new") first?

(For the PATS (immobiliser) programming, you do need two working keys in order to programme a third. but that is a totally separate operation, not connected with the remote controls. The procedure above will not affect PATS.)
