Smoke, terrible smell and whirring after turning off ignition

Featured Replies

I was driving a buddy's car and we were abusing it for a while , it's a 2003 run about and not really worth much to anyone. Any way we were doing handbrake turns and I drove over a sharp bump quite fast. Anyway I parked it and turned off and some white smoke came out of the engine. It was making a bad noise and even worse smell and there was a whirring noise that didn't seem to end.

Anywah at we left it to cool or whatever. I'm just wondering what this all possibly means. Fortunately doesn't really matter whether it's gone forever or not. I drive a focus don't know much about an old fiesta.

Hooligansohmy.png!

If you were revving it a lot, hard braking & accelerating, but not going very fast for much of the time, then the coolant could have overheated.

Steam from the coolant tank vent, hissing & bubbling from the engine, smell of rubber, hot brakes & hot clutch, whirring of cooling fan. I doubt if you have done the car much good, though it may recover for a bit, poor thing.

I think your friend may be looking for another car pretty soon. But if he really doesn't mind, and you were not annoying the neighbors too much, or endangering anyone else, then carry on. If it was not worth much before it got abused, it can only be worth rather less nowlaugh.png

Haha well thats alright then, at least it won't catch on fire then and I can be prepared if anything similar ever happens to my car, let's hope not though.

It does feel good to abuse a car sometimes, especially since I'm always extra caring with my own car and panic whenever I hear any noise whatsoever, so it was nice to get that out my system lol

You are lucky to have a very helpful & generous friendbiggrin.png Deserves a pint or two, or equivalent, I think!

Probably the only 2003 Fiesta to have a decent handbrake!!
