1.6 TI-VCT

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Looking for some advice. I know the TI-VCT has a lot of known issues with the solenoids on top of the cam that make the system work. I cannot find anyone with the problem I am having though.

When I switch the ignition on, one of the solenoids rattles for a few seconds. When I switch the ignition off it rattles a few seconds longer. Anyone else encountered a similar issue?

Cheers

Each camshaft has a solenoid and a hall effect position sensor.

The rattle, if in only one camshaft, may be attempts by the pcm to test or set the camshaft, and it is not seeing the desired response.

Suggests a faulty solenoid or sensor, or associated wiring and connectors, on the rattling camshaft.

I presume the engine did not always have this rattle: Unlikely, as this sort of test is not usually done on engine start, due to possible lack of time. But if the rattle is the result of a normal pcm test, then the non-rattling camshaft would be the bad one!

I have the Ti-Vct  and never knew these were a known problem, mine done 25k and nothing at all,is it just not servicing it as it should be or something.

Must have a good listen to it.

It did not have this rattle beforehand. The weird thing is this is before I even switch the engine on which baffled me even more. Anyways went out and tried it when the engine was cold the other morning and the rattle seems to have disappeared for now.

So if its before the engine is turned on (running) how can you hear the rattle also its gone for now,is there just something a bit loose that rattles a bit.

It is a bit of a strange one.

My tivct clicks and whines after turning the ignition off but in pretty sure that's it just resetting itself as usual.

Sent from the pub with a pint in the other hand.
