Minor Service or Major Service

Featured Replies

Hi

I am booked for minor service at Ford dealership on 2nd August done 7k miles since last oil change I heard these engines get loads of problems when not serviced regurarly so that why I am going to have oil change after 7k the lady on phone said they advice doing minor then major service , I have booked my self again for minor should I consider major service ? It includes fuel filter , spark plugs oil fuel filter oil etc ? Thanks in advance

It won't include spark plugs as there aren't any on a diesel engine.

Service schedule should tell you how often it needs a major service, normally every 2 or 3 years, depending on engine.

Which one it needs next will also depend on what it had at the last service.

Don't forget brake fluid should be done every other year too.

So I will tell them to do minor service + brake fluid ? What about gearbox oil ?? And fuel filter ?

Gearbox oil should last ages unless there is a leak.

I know how you feel about the car getting smashed  My son loved his Polo but was run off the road by a French HGV driver four months ago, driver used his big bully boy tactics and tried to make my son go faster in a 30 zone, despite my son doing 30, but he stuck to the speed limit, so the French driver tried to undertake him which didn't go well as he hit my sons car, pushing him up and over an high curb and smashing into a lamp-post  Picture doesn't really show the damage but his car sustained major chassis damage and the doors couldn't be opened and the passenger-side was a right mess, all four wheels smashed,  When the crash happened the HGV driver tried to drive off but couldn't as one of the lorry wheels was buckled, Son wanted to smash the lorry drivers face in but decided not to and dialled 999 for police instead. Lorry driver asked me son why he wasn't going any faster on the road ? Son told him its only 30 along here and showed him signs, the the driver admitted he was at fault, police came and it was all sorted out, son taking photographs of the HGV lorry and photo's of the driver and all his legal papers, but me son is still fighting with his insurance company to get it all sorted.

Son only had a few cuts to his face as his window blew in as the car hit the lamp-post but his girlfriend got the brunt of the impact as she was sitting in the passenger-side front seat, that put her in hospital.

His Polo was his love of everything and spent a few grand on it, now written off.

Think I'd have just driven faster in that instance, you'll never come off better than a lorry.

That is worst if u look after car spend money on it then it goes to scrap yard what have you done with his polo?? You did not keep it ? Sell or parts or something ? As I am keeping mine not sure what will I do though sell like its or spare repairs not sure which way is the best way to go for.

The road where the crash happened used to be 40mph zone but has recently been changed to 30mph and at the beginning middle & end there are three cop vans with camera's nabbing every driver who is going above 30! This is why my Son took to the 30mph speed limit.

Son had no where to keep the car and the night of the crash it chucked it down with rain and the inside was wet through, interior was wrecked but he did manage to whip off a few things and sell them on before the car was took away.

He's now got a lovely Seat Ibiza, smart looking car.
