Clutch & Gear Problem

Featured Replies

Hi, not sure if this is posted in the correct section, apologies if not.
I was in my CMax 2011 TDCi Titanium today and when the engine was running I was unable to put the car in to any gear at all.
The only way I could get it in to gear was to switch the engine off and put it in 2nd gear. Then I could start the car up and drive home but had to stay in this gear all the way.
What I did notice was when I pushed the clutch in the car seemed to slow down quite a bit. Also when I cam to a stop at a set of lights the car would still be moving forward although the clutch was fully down. I had to apply the break to stop me moving.

From what I have read it seems to be that the clutch is not clearing the flywheel but that is just a guess from me. It may well be more serious.
Any ideas please?

Thanks
Lee

Severe clutch drag like that may be the hydraulic clutch release system.

First check the fluid level in the brake reservoir. On most of these cars the reservoir is common, but low level will not reach the clutch, so the brakes get priority. If the level is low, there may be a leak. You may see some oil around the clutch housing area, or under the car.

Pedal & master cylinder problems are next on the list.

Then come clutch problems: Oil (hydraulic or engine) on plate, sticking on splines, etc.

(I am assuming your car has a similar hydraulic clutch system to the Focus, but most do.)
