When I start the engine the lights give a once only flash. The light switch is off - any ideas what could be causing this?

I have a 2006 Focus 1.8 Deisel.

    Check yor battery is fully charged as if the battery volts goes below 10 volt the gem module puts the lamps on hope that helps
