EGR Valve

Featured Replies

Hello Guys

Car has been stuttering and mis firing when accelerating recently and then this week I had the dreaded engine system failure come up on the dash and limped home from work. I've changed the coil pack, leads and plugs today but I'm still getting the fault message on the dash... read that possible causes are clogged up Egr valve but I can't seem to see one on my engine to clean? I'm running a petrol 05 Mk2 1.6 Zetec can anybody help?

I am not sure if this engine has an EGR valve, nothing shows on the wiring diagram. But on Ebay, this item comes up for this car:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EGR-Valve-For-Ford-C-Max-Fiesta-Focus-II-Volvo-S40-S80-1-6D-9685640480-1338675-/252462106327

But the best advice for anyone with a engine light on is to get an OBD2 scanner. They are very cheap, and very easy to use.

I have a very basic U480 (about £10 from Ebay), which will show most engine error codes. FOr more complex problems, I use Forscan & an ELM327 adapter, which is more complex to set up (needs a computer), but much more powerful.

But there is quite a lot of choice in between these two units.

It can avoid a lot of guesswork, and helps avoid garage diagnostic charges of up to £100 per attempt.

(Note: That Ebay link looked suspicious, it said 1.6TI engine (petrol), which looks like a typo, but it was repeated (copied) on a few seller's items, so I put it in in case. Ian (below) has confirmed this, just shows you have to double check everything!)

no egr, and the link peter put up is for 1.6 diesel .

as peter says, stop guessing and get a code reader and go from there. probably hego sensor.
