Ecoboost 140 grinding gears.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Right so I'm pretty annoyed at the moment.

for 6 months I have had an issue with my car.

it originally started when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd,  and would grind badly.  Took it to ford,  has synchros replaced.

Then it started not going into gear a month later.  Took it back to ford again and they couldn't work out the issue.  In the end palmed me off and replaced the synchros on 3rd gear and told me if i come back they won't repair it because I'm breaking it.

I Drive another car,  probably more than this one and have never had issues with the way I drive.

Now,  3 months later the car has started grinding going into 1st and most other gears are intermittently stiff.  It's mental it feels like I have to be super fragile with the car or its going to break.

I don't know what to do,  the Ford garage I went to before has closed down since.  I'm now stuck with a fragile car,  dodgy gearbox again.  Effectively a worthless piece of junk.

Can anyone help me try and work out what the problem could be? Surely it can't be my gearbox?

The car is nearly 2 years old and I have had it for 11 months.

You can take it to any Ford dealership and claim warranty repairs.

I would also contact Ford Head Office, and insist they make the appropriate arrangements.

Hi,

The issue went away for a while but returned with a vengeance last week.

It wouldn't go into 1st or 2nd, after changing through the gears a few times it managed to get into 2nd and I drove to work with it like that.

Drove home in the evening, same thing. Got home, went through different gears again, and 1st started responding too.

Took it to ford the next day and they couldn't fault it.

The gears often get very stiff as im driving, one minute they are smooth, next they are notchy and stiff. Similar to before when the gears used to grind.

The Ford dealership said that I have a heavy clutch, which is odd considering I mainly do motorway driving so there shouldn't be much strain on the clutch at all.

My friend has a newer (2015) model Red edition, I tested his clutch and it's much nicer, and his gears don't get stiff and notchy like mine.

Not too sure what to do now, the options are, keep pestering Ford (even though they don;t seem to be able to diagnose and repair the issue) or pay to have my clutch replaced in the hope that this is causing the issue.

Any suggestions?

I'd insist on them taking it for a drive with you in the car.

They are clearly trying to get out of it so i'd do everything you can to get them to replace it under warranty.

Hi,

I will try this again, but did it last time and they still stuck to their guns that nothing was wrong.

I have already tried 2 dealers, there aren't anymore in my area.

Also ask to take the chief tech out so you can demonstrate it.

That's what my local does whenever I have a problem like this, I never just leave it with them, they always get me to show them first.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the suggestion :).

I have tried both Gowrings (now out of business) and ThinkFord. Believe they are both big chains mate. Any others you can suggest? Can look to see if there are any relatively close to me.
