Insurance for adding parts that should have come as stock

Featured Replies

Recently bought my pre-owned mk 7 (09) Zetec S. For some reason my car has the city/street pack bodywork without the side skirts. I'm contemplating buying the skirts and having them installed as I don't think it looks right without them,

Only thing that's putting me off is any potential additional costs for insurance as I'd technically be making modifications...even though the parts should have been there in the first place as if someone got bored of the side skirts and took them off.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Have you checked on Ford Etis to see your cars original build history? I cant see it being built without them, maybe they got damaged and the previous owner decided to remove them rather than replace. Cant you contact the last owner from their details on your V5 to see if they can shed any light on the matter for you? If it should have them on as standard for that model then i think i would just fit them. Have a look underneath on the sills to see if you can spot any signs that they have previously been fitted and removed. If they have been then no need to tell your insurance as they should have been there in the first place when you took your policy out so youre already paying an insurance premium for the car with skirts as standard.

anything added after build would technically be a mod and the insurance company would need notifying.

I agree but if theyve previously been fitted from new and then removed there is no issue replacing what should already be there.

If you are returning a vehicle to it's original build level then there shouldn't be a problem.

I've checked on Etis and it mentions the spoiler and both front and rear bumper upgrades. No mention of the skirts unfortunately. Have you any idea how much this may add to my premiums if I installed the skirts?
