1.8 Zetec S

Featured Replies

When I come to selling my 1.6 focus Zetec climate, rather then getting a titanium I was looking at a 1.8 Zetec s around the 2010 mark. The 1.8 Zetec s are quite nippy I've been told. Are there any bad points I need to look out for ??   Never had a 1.8 Zetec s before.  Thanks in advance

I've got a 1.8 petrol Titanium, I'm presuming it's the same engine that's in the 1.8 sport. I wouldn't say that the 1.8 is nippy, certainly not sports car quick. It's just better for over taking than the 1.6, if you want nippy quick you'd probably be better looking at an ST.

I maybe wrong but I think the main differences on the 1.8 sport to the 1.8 titanium is the sport has firmer suspension and the sport side skirts and bumper kit.

Yea totally agree, the St would be a good car for speed.I was looking at the tech specs and the 1.8 Zetec"s" is about 140 Bhp. My 1.6 Zetec climate is about 100.Also the 1.8 torque is a lot higher too.

The 1.8 Duratec HE engine that is used in the Focus MK2/MK2.5 has 125 HP. This engine was available as a normal Petrol version and as a FFV (FlexiFuel) version which can run on Petrol or Ethanol (E85) or a mixture of both.

The Duratec  HE engine is also available as a 2.0 version which has 145 HP.

The 1.8 Duratec HE is known for its oil consumption. this is a pretty common problem. Some even burn a full liter of oil every 300 Miles. When buying a car with this type of engine you should search very thoroughly for signs of oil consumption.

The 2.0 Duratec HE can also suffer from oil consumption but on this engine it is a lot less common problem than on the 1.8 Duratec HE.

Another point of concern is fuel consumption. The 1.8 Duratec HE is quite thirsty. Despite the lower performance figures the 1.8 basically has the same fuel consumption as the 2.0.

Thank you JW loads of useful info.  Perhaps I may hold off from a Zetec s 1.8 2009/10 plate then lol.
