Engine noise whilst cruising

Featured Replies

Recently picked up an Edge Sport 210 ps. When cruising on the motorway (50 mph and above) I hear a faint but clearly noticeable, relatively high pitched, "rat a tat tat" type rattle when the throttle is depressed (even/especially when slightly pressed). It's coming from under the bonnet (though you can hear it in the cabin) and I'm reasonably convinced it's just the sound of the diesel engine, but would be interested to know if anyone else experiences this. I have a Kuga 2.0 diesel too (although manual) and don't experience the same noise.

No noise from mine at all and at 70mph very quiet but the noise cancelling has failed to shut the other half up (lol)

Think the noise is coming from the turbos (not the air inhalation) spinning. It's pretty faint but one of those things, once you've heard it ...

In case anyone has the same query ...

Took it back to the dealership and they did some tests. Seems the noise comes from the fuel injectors (it's a sort of high pitched cricket like noise). Apparently the noise lessens after 4-5k miles once they "learn" your driving style (skeptical of that). We also have a Kuga 2.0 tdci and actually I hear a similar noise, except it's far less obvious as road and wind noise is greater. Maybe I have a particular sensitivity to that noise or in my car it's louder. Guess it'll be a matter of ignoring it and turning up the sound system (which fortunately is pretty good!).

Interestingly we had this too - We've just hit 8,000 miles but I haven't noticed it for some time, so that may be the case?

Yes, thankfully mine's gone too now (after 2,500+). Or at least to a level which I can't hear/doesn't bother me.
