My first MOT

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon,
I have a 2002 Toyota Corolla 1.4 vvt-i which I’m going to swap for a MK2 Focus.

Before buying the Focus, I want to make the MOT on the Corolla, but I have some issues I would like to solve, and check if they fail or not a MOT.

This is my first time doing an MOT in the UK, and I believe there are some differences for what I’m used to in Portugaal.

Starter motor does not work at first (well, sometimes it does). It clicks (like its knocking) and only after some tries (it could be between 1 to more than 10, although in the last months it would start after max 3 tries) it stars What could it be? Battery is not the problem. Will this be a problem for the MOT?

Passenger side window doesn't work, but if you use the driver switch it works, so it would be a switch problem. Same with the driver window, although it works sometimes. Cleaning the contacts? Also, both windows when going down make a loud “clack” noise, and one time I have opened the passenger door with the windows open and it shattered completely, so I don’t open doors with windows open. Will this fail the MOT?

Last problem, I have a very big scratch on the windscreen made by a wiping blade (before I bought the car). It is on the passenger side (made by the passenger blade). Its barely visible from the outside, but rather visible from the inside, although it never distracted me while driving. The car did pass its MOT before I bought it, but I wonder if this can fail an MOT?

Thank you all for the advice
