1995 Escort fan issue

Hey all,

Some reason the fan on my Escort isn't kicking in, after some diagnosis, I found that if I short out the cable going to the fan switch that is located on the upper radiator hose, then the fan starts. At this point, I assumed that the switch was faulty, so I replaced it, but even with the new switch, the fan still will not kick in.

Any ideas?

P.S. the thermostat is fine, and the temp gauge on the dash is working.
