Panel flapping into passenger foot well

Featured Replies

I bought a 2013 Fiesta 1.0L Ecoboost recently and a panel (quite tatty) beneath glove box is flapping down into the passenger foot well (see photo). It has a heavy box attached that appears to have weakened/bent the fixing. Anyone know what the box is (as it is not visible when the glove box is flipped down) and whether there is a piece of trim missing that would normally help support this to stop it falling down?

Hey @macey81,

i believe there should be some kind of plastic trim underneath this to keep the foamy stuff in place. Ford should be able to get you a part number. If anyone knows how this piece of plastic is meant to attach please reply as mine is loose also.

At the bottom of the trim in the photo is a rectangular bit of material. That hooks under the dashboard area to keep it supported. Kind of like how you close a box of cereal after opening it.

It also looks like you may be missing two plastic pins/rivets that go through those plastic washers. (If they have holes in them as I can't really tell from the photo)

Just to expand on Russ' post....plus I have just been working on this area so can provide some pics.

The black box is your APIM module. Basically the bit that controls sync/bluetooth. It weighs naff all, so is only bringing down the panel, as it's not fixed correctly.

Assuming you have the plastic rivet/pin things in the front of the panel, you should be able to release them by popping out the middles then pulling out the outers, then slide the panel so the rear guide actually lays on the metal hanger picture below. Re-attach the rivet/pins (insert outers then push in inners), and you're all good.

Thanks Folks, Yes it appears to be the tab 'from the cereal box' that has weakened and now won't stop it flapping down. I think the two plastic pins just at the top of the original photo (not the ones holding on the APIM module (thanks barrierfreeman for the insight and photos)) are ok as these are preventing the whole thing from falling out. I will check it out tonight as my wife has taken the car for a spin today. Nathanzetec indicated there may also be some plastic trim missing. I also thought this, as otherwise it looks quite messy under there, does anyone have a photo of what it should look like? Also does anyone know what this piece of flappy foam board is called/part# so I can find out how much a replacement might be?

Mine looks like this. Whether that's right...who knows. Certainly not super neat, but I rarely spend time lying in the passenger side footwell looking up

Yes, those days are long gone

Brilliant - thanks!

My car (purchased second hand) didn't even have this panel. I purchased a good one cheaply from a wreckers. My APIM module is located elsewhere, though the car at the wreckers had it as per the photo above. Perhaps the weight of the module makes the panel weaker. It's certainly not the most robust of attachments.

The bit I forgot. This is on the reverse of the panel.

Thanks for the part# info. I think the weight of the module and the motion of the car has gradually weakened the fixing. A pair of cable ties has done the trick and its doesn't look too bad.

I just got in my son's 2018 ST-Line-X and he has a similar bit of fluff. There were two orange plastic screws holding it in place at the top, and one has a black circular 'nut' holding it in place. So did the other, but I pinged it off by accident and can't find it now!

I thought it must be missing a plastic cover because it's really crappy stuff - is this really how it comes out of the factory?

Thanks all for info here

my APIM module wasn't seated in the correct holes of the trim/flap, so it kept falling out - have reseated thanks to pictures above and it feels much more secure now

Ok, so my fiesta ‘17 grey liner is hanging down. As I’ve popped it back in place (no cover on mine, bought it recently) my finger has gone through the cut out in the middle of the panel and got pricked or burnt! Ignition off, engine cold. Within 30 secs I’ve now got a nice blister!! Is that likely to be a burn? From what?

...........and ? 🤔

Hi all

I'm jumping on the bang waggon. I also had this bit flapping about. Can anyone confirm weather there should be a plastic casing over the fluffy bit. Tia

None.

Is it just supposed to be hanging loose? 🙂
