2017 Battery Problems

Featured Replies

My new 2017 Edge Sport is in the garage yet again after only 800 miles, this is for the second time due to battery draining.  Ford state that they cannot find a fault.

After asking 'Google' I can see that this has been a problem for earlier models across the pond (USA) but I cannot find any recent complaints within the U.K..

I absolutely love my new car, when it starts!

Any help, advice or experiences welcomed

Many thanks

Do you leave anything plugged in to the charging sockets- may be remaining live

No, nothing at all.  It's a mystery.

Could be an problem with that gizmo which Edge is equipped. So to reduce fuel consumption it only changers battery "when is needed" unlike others "normal" cars all the time when engine is running. Simply the device which switch to charge battery is not working activating battery charging.

From Ford UK site / Edge/ Features/ Performance and efficiency:

A more efficient way to re-charge your battery

Unlike traditional systems, Smart Regenerative Charging only charges the battery when it needs it and, whenever possible, avoids doing so when you’re pressing the accelerator. This can help save even more fuel and further reduce emissions. "

I have a focus that battery keeps draining. Ford are saying pcm fault!

This is my old post on here!

i have a focus that is causing me no end of trouble.

First didn't idle right and would cut out now and again.

The intermittent power steering on cold or dam/wet days

Then all the gauges would fly up and down no power steering, turn it off and started all fine again. Then cut out all together rac called out restarted it.

Had a new battery & alternator. That worked for a week, but engine light was on.

monday loss of power steering while driving, all haywire with the gauges again. Power steering wouldn't come back on. Left it an hour all was fine.

Next day went to start it all dash lights flashing, multiple malfunctions and it's died.

Garage are saying it's down to the pcm!

Any advice??

LukeEdge,

As far as I am aware Smart Regenerative Charging is common to all new Ford vehicles, not just the Edge.
