Grinding noise/banging

Featured Replies

When I take of in my car I occasionally hear a grinding noise or a loud bang. It never happens when the car is already moving only when taking off. It doesn't happen every time either.

Does anyone know the cause of this?

Had something like this in my car. Ended up being the very front exhaust bracket was broken and letting the exhaust hit off the front sub frame when accelerating. Maybe have a check for that.

My tailpipe exhause bracket snapped all the way through not too long ago. I didn't even think about the front one going haha. Will give it a check

My focus 1.6 tdci makes a bang/click noise on every start off.  From what I understand it's normal but not sure what makes the noise.  It may just be that, I guess it depends if you're describing the same noise as I am!

Jonanstee - does it happen at approx 10-15mph? And only ever once per ignition cycle?

If so, it's the ABS/ESP module/pump priming/testing itself. Completely normal. If you are turning in a tight corner whilst it undertakes this prime/test you will get a grinding noise vs just a banging.
