Mk2 Focus driveshaft removal

Hi folks, my wife's 1.6 petrol has a knocking CV joint on the driver's side. I've picked up a full driveshaft through trade contacts.

I have swapped the shafts on my Mk2.5 TDCI before. But I can't recall all the details...

  1. slacken retaining nut with wheels on ground
  2. slacken wheel nuts
  3. lift driver's side as high as possible
  4. wheel off
  5. slacken the carrier bearing in the middle
  6. pull out old shaft

 

Are there any hidden difficulties not covered? Like circlips or do I need to remove a joint on the hub?

    All done!

     

    1. slacken retaining nut with wheels on ground
    2. slacken wheel nuts
    3. lift driver's side as high as possible
    4. wheel off
    5. slacken the carrier bearing in the middle
    6. remove brake caliper
    7. scratch a line on the strut across the collar top
    8. slacken hub to strut collar
    9. knock the collar off the strut
    10. pull out old shaft
    11. fit new shaft
    12. tighten carrier bearing
    13. realign shaft with hub centre
    14. lift hub with jack
    15. tap collar until it is back in place
    16. tighten all up in reverse
