Removing washer bottle - smeary windscreen

Featured Replies

Hey all!

Smeary windscreen time of year again (not sure why, but happens a lot this time of year).

Replaced wipers, and cleaned (new) windscreen with autoglym glass polish and rain-x applied. After application i put water on the screen and no smearing - washed the screen with the nozzles and smear heaven.

Is the washer bottle on the mk2.5 easy to remove? I want to clean the bottle out (mixed halfords and cheap poundshop screenwash a couple of months ago which has set all of this off I think!) but also because I know that my old Corsa washer bottle was home to a healthy family of algae too.

I think you have to remove the wheelarch liner to get the bottle out. Hoping I never have to do it in mine!

remove drive side wheel arch to remove bottle:smile:

Adventure for tomorrow! I just found the Ford workshop manual online actually (the one that I got for my suspension job and then lost access to as my Virtual Machine ran out of evaluation time) which gives a good idea of what to do.

All the tinkering i'm doing with the car, i've even thought about doing the timing belt myself (no, bad Ted, put the tools down and step away!)

dead easy to take out, I'm about to swap mine for a headlamp washer version with a low level sensor, wheel and wheel arch liner off, undo some bolts, disconnect a few plugs and tubes, job done.

how do you get the sensor working in your car?

Once you have the sensor fitted, all it probably needs is to be enabled via Elmconfig.

ill tell you once ive done it :)

but I'm not expecting it to be difficult, the harness from the washer bottle to the fuse box is fully connected, I may need to pop a relay in for the headlamp washers but the wires are all there.  the replacement washer bottle has its own wiring harness that connects to the car one so its literally plug and play, my old washer bottle only had 2 of the 6 wires connected, both for the window washers,

the new one has  2 wires for the window washers, 2 for the headlamp washes and 2 for the water level sensor, once I have it all connected up I should just need to enable the washer level sensor in the HEC module and the headlamp washers in GEM. ive already pulled it to bits to see how easy it is, now I just need a dry day :)

indeed, there are two options, one in HEC and one in GEM, once I have it all plumbed in and tested ill need to disable the headlamp washers until I can paint these stupidly expensive plastic covers and bang a couple of holes in the bumper, thankfully its all nicely marked out on the inside, thanks ford! :)

one final word of caution, don't be a plonker like myself and not take note which hose connects up to which side of the pump, or you will have to disassemble the whole bloomin thing to swap them over again :(
