Amazon Echo Dot in mk3 - do it!

Featured Replies

So I've had an Amazon Echo Dot for a while but could never find a secure (hidden) workable location for it on my mk2.5.

anyway, since I've been upgrading my mk3 to sat nav I noticed the massive space behind/below the radio and started to investigate.

i assume via the vents, the voice activation works great even with the engine running!

turns out it's really easy to feed the aux cable to the glovebox, and USB power to the centre console (don't use the glovebox USB - doesn't work).

Coupled with a phone or 4g dongle, now I have Alexa on Line In 😎😎

So want to try this. What's the response time like on the cell network? Do you have to wait a while for it to respond to you?

that will depend on the type of network you are connected to and what level of signal you have. a strong 4G signal will be almost impossible to tell the difference between that and a land line.  I would probably suggest looking in to ways to increase the reception of the 4G adaptor though. 4G is notoriously bad with signal loss.  HSDPA(+) will have delays but nothing to be worried about or to cause you problems, 3G and all bets are off, unless its a strong signal (in which case you should have HSDPA) you might have significant delays. 2G GPRS, you might as well give up the idea.,
