Intermittent keyless entry mk2. 5

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Having a few issues with keyless entry into my focus mk2.5. I have 2 key fobs along with an extra "hard" key. I've replaced the batteries in both the key fobs which didn't help the following issue.

I go out in the morning and it won't unlock without pressing the key and will sometimes say key not found when trying to start (all with key in my pocket). I'll get to work and can lock the car using the handle lock button. Work finishes and I can get back in my car without touching the key. Get back home and it won't lock with the handle button! Almost like at home somethings stopping it working.

Just seems really intermittent. Anybody experience this before?

I don't know the frequencies used in the keyless system but it sounds as if something like a wireless router signal might be jamming it. If you have a router you could try turning it off at the mains as a test. (If it's a neighbour's that might be more difficult :whistling1:).

The thought had crossed my mind! Only issue with that is I've got 25 neighboughs! As I live in a flat block haha.

I'll try it out in a few other locations to pin it down to an issue at home.

Let us know how you get on

Do you have a dash cam or satnav plugged in?
This can cause problems with interference on the key sensors.

Yes I do, I've got a dash cam hardwired in So it only comes on with the ignition. Shouldn't cause an issue with interference if it's off should it? I'll disconnect for one morning at give it a go though.

Those would cause the problem wherever the car was. As it only seems to happen close to home it can't be anything inside the car.

Hi Ben.

Did you get to the bottom of this as my car has the same intermittent problem?

Thanks
