2007 focus ghia and voice control.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, hope you are all well.

I have picked up a 2007 mk2 ford focus ghia with quite a few toys which is fantastic.

However I can't seem to figure out the

1.Bluetooh function

2. Voice control function

-------------

BLUETOOTH

Now as for this I have the Sony 6cd gen 2, this has a phone button and a green and red phone button. Every time I push these I just get 'audio mute' on the display.

I have cycled in the menu and I can't find any info on BT or phone.

Would I be right in saying my car has no ecu or phone module connected?

VOICE CONTROL

Now behind my steering wheel I have a stalk with lots of buttons and one of the state's 'Voice' but again this button does nothing if I push it or hold it down?

Am I doing anything wrong?

Am I right in saying that if it did not have voice control then I should not have the button?

I have an aux port fitted in the globe box, will the voice only work with that connected?

Need helps please lol.

Hi and welcome to the forums,

From experience it seems either the original headunit has been removed and replaced with the Sony 6 CD

or

the Bluetooth module has been removed,

Either wat the results you experience are the same.

the Bluetooth module is paired with the specific headunit; there programmed to communicate with each other and only each other not any ford unit, unfortunately changing the headunit upsets the relationship and they don't communicate with any other unless ford intervenes, there's also differen module for 2005-2007 model and 2007-2011 model.

Also the Sony headunit from a mondeo will fit the focus and function as yours currently does but it won't ever communicate with the Bluetooth module of a focus because the mondeo is too far up it's own rear bumper.

although the hardware looks identical the software inside is very different, the way to tell this is by googling the part number on the side of the headunit; this will tell you if the headunit is from a mondeo or focus.

if seeking to have Bluetooth functionality i recommend going for an aftermarket headunit rather than spending relatively the same amount of money to install 2007 technology you can have an aftermarket Pioneer with reverse camera and Apple Carplay or Android Play for the same sort of money which will enable you to send and recieve text message and email using only your voice while driving and it all comes with a factory finish.

whichever path you choose see this first guide here to access the Bluetooth module; you will then know if you have one fitted or not aswell as be able to access the side of the headunit to see it's part number;

Hi , firstly check for few things.
1.mic. remove maplight & feel for wire leading to where mic sits in roof lining.
2. Remove entire glovebox & look above for nokia bluetooth module or a large grey connector maybe tucked in foam with loom . This stage you will know if loom is their. It could be that someone upgraded sony radio & voice stalk thinking it may work or possibly removed module. Or the stereo is not compatible. It has to be focus one. The other thing is even if you upgrade with module you still have to enable it in ecu via say elm or ford dealers

Module Fitting Guide

First you need to make sure you have your radio code, then as you will be working near the passenger airbag I would recommend you disconnect the battery, You are responsible for any damage incurred if you carry on without doing so.

Open the glove box and remove the vent for the air cooler, just give it a pull and it will come off

DSCF1204.JPG DSCF1205.JPG

Remove the seven screws that secure the glove box in place then ease the the glove box out so as not to break any of the small securing clips on the cooler pipe.

step02u.jpg

Slide the glove box out carefully as there are wires still connected to the AUX socket and the airbag deactivation switch if you have it fitted, (another reason for disconnecting the battery).

step03a.jpg Capture10.JPG

You can also remove the glove box door to allow more access, remove the damper on the left hand side then give the door careful pull and it will pop out of the spring clips circled

step04i.jpg step05.jpg

Once you have the glove box out look on the left hand side for the BVC connector, it's wrapped to the loom with tape. (sorry forgot to take a pic)

DSCF1207 copy.jpg

Peel the Gray foam back, if your careful it wont rip and can be reused once the BVC connector and cable are released. Whilst the grey foam is peeled back look for a grey connector it will be wrapped up with the rest of the loom in black electrical tape. This is where the audio patch cable needs to go, simply remove the existing one and replace it with the new one you bought from Ford. You can now wrap the gray foam back around the loom.

New audio patch cable in
DSCF1210.JPG

Whilst we are in this area look further down the loom and you will see another connector it has 4 black and 4 red/ white wires this is where the microphone patch cable goes.
If you RS was built after December 2009 there's a good change the connector won't be there, don't panic Ford changed the loom to incorporate the microphone wiring omitting the need for the patch cable.

DSCF1230.JPG

Next step is to mount he module onto the bracket using the larger of the three screws

DSCF1211.JPG

You can now insert the BVC connector and secure it by moving the white lever to the other end of the connector, you can also put you USB cable in.

DSCF1206 copy.jpg

Using the other screws you can now secure the module to the underside of the dash, it's a bit difficult but if you let the fuse box down you can reach up through the gap.
Tighten the back one then swing the module up and put the other screw in.

It might be easier to mount the bracket and them mount the module onto it, I don't know as I followed another guide.

step08.jpg

Position of BVC once fitted

Secure your USB cable up out the way of the glove box cavity and route the cable to wherever you want it, you can add another extention if you need to or want to fit the ipod holder and USB at a later date.

If fitting the ipod holder and USB then you should use the 2 meter cable and route it down to the passenger side kick panel area.

You can now reinstall the glove box and re-secure the fusebox.

Ipod Holder Fitting Guide

To fit the ipod holder into the armrest open the lid and remove the two torque screws circled red these release the rear armrest cover.

10 copy.jpg

To remove the rear armrest cover just prise the spring clips and lift the cover free

3.jpg

You can remove the armrest lid to give a bit more access when cutting the holes, remove the four torque screws circled green and it will come off

11 copy.jpg

You need to cut some holes into the back of the armrest to allow fitting of the ipod holder. If you look closely you will see some lines moulded into the armrest back panel. I used a dremmel but you could possibly do this with a sharp knife or junior hacksaw blade.

6.jpg

Follow the inside of the lines being careful not to deviate too much especially at the bottom where the holder tabs fit as the holder does not offer much overlap in this area.

7 copy.jpg

Refit the armrest lid using only the bottom two torque screws

11a.jpg

Fit the ipod holder inside the armrest and fix into position with the top two screws

8 copy.jpg

Remove the passenger side kick panel and route the USB cable inside the carpet then where the consul starts pop the cable up inside and route it to the back of the armrest.

4.jpg   5.jpg

Insert the USB socket into the ipod holder then refit the armrest back cover.

I didn't bother with the AUX socket because I don't need it but I would say it would be easy to run an extension cable between the armrest and existing AUX in the glove box. There's a consul loom available from ford that incorporates the connector for the AUX but you would have to remove the entire consul to fit.

I found a nice little round cover that matched the holder so stuck it on with some sticks like DSCF1218.JPG

You will now see a metal spring clip, I'm not sure of the correct way to remove this so what I did was to use a small screw driver to pry the back of the clip forward or towards you.

DSCF1220 copy.jpg

The light unit will now come down and you will have access to the two screws holding the surround in place, remove these and remove the surround, it will go past the light unit once the connector for the mic has been loosened.

Capture5 copy.jpg

There will be a round piece of foam in the cavity where the mic goes so remove it first then pop the mic in and connect it up.

DSCF1225.JPG

Refit the surround and the light unit making sure you get the metal reinforcing ring in the correct position in the surround.

Audio Stalk Fitting Guide
The audio control stalk is straight forward, just insert a screw driver into the small orifice on the back of the stalk and ease it out being careful as there is a couple of wires attached.

DSCF1215 copy.jpg DSCF1217.JPG

Swap the wiring to the new stalk and reinsert it, you will here a twang when it's fully in.

That's it Reconnect the battery, put you radio code in and see what you have, hopefully you will have fully working BVC in your RS

Once your happy that the USB works follow Rich's guide to update your head unit's firmware http://www.focusrsoc...-media-updates/

Voice Control

If after fitting, your voice control isn't working you will need to reprogramme the module. This is normal if using a second hand module. You can do this using a modified elm327 OBDII and ELMConfig

Once you have your elm327 connected to you car and your laptop, set the elm327 to MS-CAN

Start ELMConfig and click Open Port

Click on SRM then Configuration, as a precaution you should read from SRM and save cofiguration then just follow what is on the pic and your voice control should now work ELM SRM copy copy.jpg
