1.0 EB 125 late September 2015 cilinder head oil leak!

Featured Replies

Hi there, while visiting the dealer for mentainance I spotted oil spots on the engine block.( I'm allowed to watch from next to the mechanic instead of the tv screen, as I am a ford owner since 2005 ( first new focus model)). Kinda panicked, and on closer inspection the service decided the engine was loosing oil by the head gasket..... Exactly 30 parts needed replacing ( nuts, bolts, orings , camshaft cover gasket, cylinder head bolts, timing belt and tensioner , air intake seal, oil filter ( not the oil) ..... And so on.

It took two days... Luckily the ford dealer lent me the new ford Ecosport Titanium 1.0 125 for 2 days :) . Now it works just fine, no oil on the engine ( the block was thoroughly cleaned).

Now I'm happy I purchased the extended 5year warranty. I'm still during the first 2 years ( purchased the focus on the 26th of January 2016) and the tachometer shows 18594 miles.

I opened this topic after searching for "cylinder head oil leak" , and getting no results. I wanted to know if I was the only lucky one ;) I have to mention that there were no exterior signs  of  oil leakage , and if I wasn't looking from underneath the car with the shield off then I wouldn't have discovered the oil..it was more like a transpiration mixed with dust. It didn't affect the oil level that much.

I have to mention that before the incident we did  1700miles in two days and a half, as we went to Cannes, visited the riviera for 9days then returned home another 1700miles..

For those interested I could add pictures of the dismantled engine.

Please excuse my English ;)

Kind regards,

Liviu Sindila

The piston heads post lasts 20 pages, there is even a money saving expert post on it. Something I found there  was a recall on a water pipe. Does appear that these small engines are over clocked at higher temperatures.

I would probably just stick with my mk1 as these cars can do over 160 000 miles on petrol. Though if I had a new ecoboast I would not take any chances and I would change the water coolant every year.

The water pump is electric. and there was a recall about a water pipe yes.

Jamie

the water pump is mechanical but there is an electric auxillary water pump that operates with ign off and high temps on certain vehicles but not all.
