SD Card Slot

Featured Replies

Folks, before I ordered my Edge, I drove a couple of dealer demo cars, one a Titanium and one a Sport, both having Sync 2.  In the front chubby in front of the gear lever, there were two USB sockets and an SD card plugged in next to them.  The dealer advised me this SD card was for the Sat Nav.   Now I have my Edge with Sync 3, I have the 2 USB slots but no SD card or slot.  If the slot in the earlier versions is for the Sat Nav, how on earth do I upgrade mine ?

either via wifi, or more likley via usb, as earlier sync 2 had map data on the sd card and nav data on sync 3 is inbuilt.

Cheers Ian.  So far I've found the maps to be reasonably accurate, except one street in Edinburgh I was directed down, which had been closed to vehicular traffic for several years.  The Edge is the first car I've owned with built in Sat Nav.  I used to like my trusty old Tom Tom, as you could make alterations to the map in real time if you found a road to be closed, so you would never be routed that way in future.

So again, how are you supposed to update the sync 3 on my 2016 edge, is there an sd card somewhere or not one ?

You update Sync3 via a USB Stick. See the link posted by @eDGeDout18. The big stumbling block for most is the formatting of the USB Stick, so ensure you get that bit right. There are also loads of topcs on this forum on the process and what to do when it goes pear shaped!

You can also update using CyanLabs (to get v3.4 and the F10 maps), but that is a much riskier process and not all 2016 Sync3 hardware versions (APIM) supports that update, so try the official Ford Update pages first and see how you get on!

Hi, you download the software updates from Ford (https://www.ford.co.uk/account-management/account-dashboard) onto your PC and then upload them onto a suitably sized USB stick which you insert into one of the 2 USB ports in your car.

It doesn't take too long to install on the car but the downloading from the Ford website takes an absolute age!
