Power steering pump

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm new here so sorry if this has already been asked and answered!

I've got a noisy power steering pump that's getting lazy at low revs, no leaks. We all know it's the pump that needs replacing. I've been reading I need to replace the pipes as well as they're modified to work better? Can anyone tell me if this is a job I can do myself and any special tools required? I've seen recond pumps on eBay and the modified pipes for not too bad a price...compared to getting it done at a garage anyway!

Ford Focus Sport (ha) 1.6 petrol.

Thanks for any help guys!

Mines in at the moment for a leak (likely pipes/reservoir).

My Mechanic said it is a tight job, but if you remove enough components in the area (alternator as an example) it makes the job easier.

I struggled quite a bit when I removed the pump on my 1.6 petrol.

The difficulty for me was removal of the two pipes to the rack from the pump body.

The answer for me was to remove the complete assembly of pipes and pump together and refit as an assembly.

Your method may vary.
