Oil filter question

Featured Replies

What is the purpose of the part on the end of the filter with an o ring on it, this is in a 1.6tdci focus, is it just to locate the filter in a bore towards the bottom of the housing?

When I read this I thought the answer was because the bit sticking out with the o ring on was for oil to travel through. but I had a spare filter in the garage so I just had a look and it is just a kind of plastic peg with no hole in.

What amazes me is that I put a new filter in my old 1.6tdci about 8 times whilst i owned it and I was always careful to make sure I located that part correctly but never wondered why it was there. maybe the peg is stop the filter itself turning when putting the cap on and off but why then the  o ring on it?

So, sorry I don't know
