Foam in coolant - head gasket?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Recently purchased a 2009 Ford Focus Zetec LV with the 2.0 Duratec engine. 101,000 km on the clock (I'm in Australia).

Have only had the car for two days and everything seemed to check out on the test drive. I noted the coolant level was at a tad low when I bought it.

Car has been driving fine since I've owned it. Checked the coolant again today and there was a white froth that had built up on top of it (see photos - apologies for poor quality, night here).

The oil checks fine and there are no overheating issues. The only thing I can think of is a slight burning smell through the vents under hard acceleration which disappears after a second or so.

Is this a headgasket failure? I've only had the car two days (purchased pivately) and I'd be gutted.

Thanks all!
