MK3 Focus 6-sp Illuminated Gear Knob - from a MK2?

Featured Replies

Ok so I really really want the illuminated gear knob for my 6-speed diesel mk3, but £100 is a little steep (at least to explain to my wife :biggrin:)

Seen one for sale for £30 advertised as a Mk2 6-speed illuminated gear knob (the given part number checks out with Ford) but it looks identical to the Mk3.

Anyone know if they are even slightly interchangeable?  I know that the gear knob itself is just twist-off, but the other thing is the 6sp has a lifter for reverse.  When the gear knob is removed, the lifting mech is left behind, but it'd have to be fully removed to feed the wires through to the inside of the gaiter.

Has anyone done this with a 6 speed and does anyone know if the mk2 knob is different in any way?

Thanks

Lift reverse knobs use a totally different fitting method to a standard reverse type.

Thanks for your reply.

The guy selling says it is a lift type, but I can't find any instructions on removing the mech and it is still a Mk2 knob.  Most videos just show changing of the actual knob and leaving the lifter behind, or are for a non-lift 5 speed which are a straight swap.

Might have to take the plunge at that price and put up a tutorial if it is successful (or a warning if not!).  The only other thing is I definitely want the blue but I know some light up red and the guy doesnt know which it is.  It also doesn't come with the wiring but I'm not too worried about that...

mk2 gear knob will have red illumination to match console back lights , only mk3's come in blue

i fitted one to my mk2 , looks excellent , got it for £80 brand new from fordpartsUK ebay store.

wiring into sidelights will be a headache , ford dont make it straightforward..........

but just buy the right one from the start , your wife will blow 100 quid on shoes without so much a missing a heartbeat........  ;-)

The annoying thing about my wife is that she's happier spending £5 on shoes from ebay than £100 new!

Ahh well I've bought it already but if I really feel up to it I'll change the leds if I can get the thing apart. If not, at least it'll match the ambients in the car. Failing all that, at least if it fits it'll look better than the stock one, illuminated or not!

Can't seem to edit last post. Anyway I'll put progress on this over on my 'build' thread.
