i should have said its the rear

I'm not aware of any ball joints on the rear of the focus

what exactly does the advisory on the mot say?

it says tie bar/rod has slight play in a ball joint offside rear

only thing i can think of is that they are referring to the anti roll bar which has drop links/ball joints on either end of it.

As far as I'm aware the tie bar is part of the hub carrier.

certainly was on the focus I've just repaired. you get a bolt and a ball joint type though. The ball joint type look exactly like the ones I've done on a mazda 3.

Yeah I appreciate that buddy, you really do have to nail them down to what they mean if you don't understand the description on  work sheets. It's happened to me many times, lol.

Isn't the tie bar the rusty curved link behind the spring in your photo?

No that is the rear upper suspension arm.

it wouldnt be the first time...............  :-D

and i wouldnt be surprised if this supposed defect  got absolutely no mention following an MOT from a trusted indepedent garage as my local dealership also has a habit of "fishing" for unnecessary work.

i would do nothing at this point until you can clearly hear or feel issues with the suspension otherwise you could be wasting time & money trying to fix a fault thats not actually there.....

or at least get a 2nd opinion

and to be fair , your undercarriage looks in pretty good condition in that last picture compared to the rusty piece of junk Stefs working on  ;-D...........
