mhenry94
Hi, I drive a 2013 focus 1.6 diesel and want to modify the car to make more power without spending a lot of money. Can anyone recommend suitable modifications, preferably those who have done it to the same car. Thanks
Gizza11
I don't have a diesel ford but try a remap .A remap will improve BHP and torque. There are usually 3 maps to choose from 1.economy 2.bit more power and 3 sporty they work very well. You could go for a custom map but you may need other things doing as well with that .Although mine is not a diesel most of the performance comes from the remap you won't get the gains that I have but it will improve it. The main thing will be the improvement in torque.
Dee_82
Almost all mods you can do to the car will make virtually bugger all difference to performance. exhausts, induction kits, blanking EGR, all the simple stuff will make such a small difference, if any at all, that you wont notice it. BUT it will probably make it sound better which in turn will make you feel like its better so there is nothing wrong with doing them :) But to get any meaningful gain you are going to need it remapped. I'm actually about to invest in my own custom made water methanol injection which will make a small but noticeable difference. a Map will set you back about £200-300 and will work fine with the car. expect ~130 overall, you might find more powerful maps out there but id be a little concerned about the torque limits on the gearbox, I'm pretty sure the 135 remap puts the torque around the design limits of the box, I may be wrong with that but that's what I heard. Water Meth kit off the shelf, about 300-400, can DIY it for about half that. absolutely no idea what difference it will make, but at the very least it will cure cancer with its lowered NOx emissions, make the pistons and valves super clean and potentially increase torque a little through higher compression, more energy released forcing the piston down harder
Deebo
I'm in the same boat but mines an estate :) I've managed to source coilovers which I'm waiting on imminent delivery!! Will be posting before and after pics as soon as they're on the car.. Will be looking at remapping ASAP too, but in the mean time I'm looking for interior mods, head unit/speakers/sub so any advice is appreciated on that front. 1
madmole
I've had a Spider Arachnid on mine for the last 30K miles, Love it. 60mpg on ECo setting, 153bhp/330torque on race setting. Transformed the car and removable in a minute
Dee_82
listed max torque on the MTX75 (if that's what you have) is ~280Nm Don't know what tolerance is built in to it but imho, id rather not find out ive exceeded it the hard way.
madmole
MTX75 may be listed at that torque but have used an MTX75 in other cars at up to 340BHP and far higher torque with no issues. Not worried at all.
Deebo
OOH!! I'm getting mine remapped on Monday, looking at 145hp & 320Nm, but adding a Pipercross panel air filter and results could be slightly higher so I've been informed, can't wait to see the difference!! Suspension mods are looking sweet too in my opinion, V-Maxx coilers fitted on Wednesday night :) Now looking for a decent wheel/tyre combination.....ANY suggestions would be appreciated!! Peace :)
