DMcD
Hi guys Have had my Ford Focus (1.6 petrol) for nearly two years and haven't had any issues with it until now. Pretty chuffed with it!! I went camping recently and must have caught something on the way up or back home. Went to put the a/c on the other day and it wouldn't work. Checked underneath and found a pretty sizeable crack in the metal curved section of the pipe going into the compressor section of the a/c. Have bought a replacement pipe but haven't yet fitted it. Basically, I've had a pretty big crack in a section of the a/c near to the ground and I'm paraniod water or dirt might have gotten into the a/c unit through it. When you get an a/c re-gassed is the system simply re-filled or is it flushed out first? If not, is there anything I should do before replacing the broken pipe section and getting it re-filled? cheers in advance
Micro
How much pipe is either side of the crack? Generally AC systems are vacuumed (or should be) for a period of time to check for major leaks - then they are refilled with refrigerant gas and oil. I'm not sure you can completely "flush" an AC system as you are wanting (but certainly check for dirt and debris both sides of the break and when you replace the pipe). Edit: Little research - you can flush an AC system, but that requires removing individual components.

They normally as mine just refill it so fix the pipe then go for a ragas if it won't pressurise then you have another leak they will be able to find that for you
