Ford focus st 2008 clutch issues

Featured Replies

Hi all

i have a rattle on my car when sat in netural with clutch not pressed its like a growling/swirling noise soon as i push my clutch in noise is gone would this be my release bearing or is it worse my fly wheel? Car is modded running around 318bhp clutch is very strong doesn't slip or nothing holds power  perfectly just this noise is annoying me now

thank you

unlikely to be release bearing. that does not really do anything until you put your foot on the clutch.

Years ago I had a 1992 Escort that had a noise (not sure if same noise as yours) when sat in neutral which disappeared when I put my foot on the clutch. I guessed it might be the input shaft on the gearbox (as that is spinning at engine speed when in neutral, but not spinning when foot on clutch).  Some months later the gearbox got quite noisy when driving normally and then a bit later started making a screeching noise on the overrun, and then some time later started jumping out of gear. And hence I had to replace the gearbox (myself in my driveway on a rainy weekend - which was not enjoyable)

Had a listen to a few youtube videos and that is way louder than what im getting this is like a bearing noise bit ticky like rod knock kind of but not as loud of course like i said the car pulls strong changes gears strong with no noise as im driving along at high or low speeds

Every car I have ever owned (I'm nearly 50) has had a slight gearbox rattle in neutral that vanishes when you put the clutch in, or start with the clutch pressed.

Got oil change done and guy checked it out and said its the thrust bearing he used his mechanics stethoscope and confirmed this and said not to worry to much so im goin live with it till i have free funds to get job done without rinising my pocket
