MK2.5 alloy size question

Featured Replies

Just a quick query regarding my MK2.5 Titanium 2.0. it currently sits on stock 16" 20 spoke alloys which I've had powder coated.. stock suppension.. I don't like the gap from arches to the wheels and while I know fitting 18" will fill the gap better what's the affect on handling and Speedo reading, mpg etc.. and do i need to fit the steering rack limited or are 18" ok with stock suppension. Also what about 17"?

The diameter of a 18 Inch wheel & tyre of the prescribed size is identical (or as close as possible) to the diameter of a 16 Inch wheel & tyre of the prescribed size.

When changing the current 16 Inch wheels & tyres for a set of 18 Inch wheels & tyres the gap between the tyre and wheelarch will not change noticeably. In my opinion fitting 18 Inch wheels & tyres on a Focus MK2/MK2.5 with stock suspension even makes the gap between the tyre and wheelarch look larger than with 16 Inch wheels & tyres.

If you want to reduce the gap between the tyre and wheelarch you have to lower the car.

There is no need to fit steering rack stops as i swapped my 17" alloys for 18" st alloys with no problem with wheel rubbing on full lock
