Ric25785
Hi, Got a 65 plate zs with led drls, fitted a standard HID Kit i had on my focus but the lights flash then turn off when i start the engine. Anyone help me get this sorted? Cheers
Jonro2009
You will need a relay then pal. They turn on with the engine off, and then when you start the engine the HIDs go out, is that right?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Ric25785
Yeh mate, that what happens. Is it one of those canbus cancellers/decoders i need? Cheers
biff55
sounds like you connected the hid ballast to the wrong light feed if you ask me......... and even if you dont ask me thats what im sticking with anyway :-)
Ric25785
I tried them the other way and they dont light up, when engine is off they are fine but as soon as i start up they flicker then go off. Its something to do with having led drls but not sure why really.
Philf1
Are they 55w I had that problem with the ST so put 35w in and they were fine Sent from my iPhone
Ric25785
No they are 35w ones had them about 6 years maybe the problem is them being old style ballasts
Ric25785
Phil, does your st have led drls?
Jonro2009
I'm sticking with using a relay direct to the battery so that it gets more power, you could try with a resistor but I don't think that will work. It sounds like because the the lights aren't drawing the same current as your Halogen bulbs the CANbus system senses this and stops any power at all getting to the bulbs. A relay would solve that problem by drawing power straight from the battery when the lights were on. I assume your DRLs are still working?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Jonro2009
Just read your comment about the age of the ballasts. With that in mind I'd say maybe it is time to get the newer style ballasts with built in decoders. Tech is changing all the time and they are probably outdated and not compatible with newer CANbus systems. ThaiFiesta
I'd read they don't have Canbus, but got a message saying Canbus error when I tried LED indicator lights
