buzzing sound on acceloration

Featured Replies

hi i would appreciate any advice on this. i have noticed a lately when i start my 55 plate ford focus there is a loud buzzing sound, this increases when i accelorate but it gets quieter when i put foot on clutch and take foot off accelerator. stranger thing is if i stop the car then maybe try  it again sometimes the buzz is barely there then it will come back next time i start the car.

The trouble is, without hearing it and being able to investigate the source, it could be a lot of things.

The first thing I can think of is a loose heat shield or cover or something, attached to the engine or exhaust, that is vibrating.

The heater blower fan, damaged or a foreign object in it, is another one. This does change a bit with engine speed, especially soon after a cold start, as the battery voltage recovers.

If it was only when the car was moving, I would look for wheel bearing or suspension problems. But if it carried on when stopped, with the engine running, then it could not be that.

You need to open the bonnet and have a good listen while it is making the noise (if it does it when stationary!). The engine type may make a difference, faulty actuators (throttle, egr, turbo) can make some odd noises.

thanks so much for the advice, it certainly is worse when cold.... when i stop and start again its hardly any noise then must be because its warmed maybe. i might have to get someone to put it up on ramp the be sure.

its not a massive issue as its not all the time but still needs looking at
