1.6Tdci engine replacement and car 'was' running in limp mode (systems failure red light on).

I have replaced the DPF, the EGR and loads of other parts as well and did check the PAT fluid reservoir, which spat some out when I took the filler cover off, so assumed that was ok.

I have the free version of Forscan on a laptop and an EML interface. With this, I did a self test on the PCM, reset the mileage on the DPF and the EGR and tested everything else that I could with the limited software available, but couldn't reset the FACM module. I'think' this may be stopping it running, (even back in limp mode like it was), because I disturbed the PAT fluid tank and think it needs re-priming on the software....

Went to start up and it ran (with systems failure light still on) for 5 seconds maybe then cut out completely and hasn't run since.

I got it lifted to my regular garage, they had a look on their diagnostics and told me that the vin number wasn't even in the pcm and it didn't recognise the engine as the correct type, (I know that it is) even when they entered the number manually. It is now back on my drive and the engine management light is now permanently on as well and it still isn't running.

Now, the guy who originally fitted it for me had loads of trouble with it and his mate had diagnostic equipment... so they 'did' things to it to try and get it to run. I later found out from another garage that he had cut the high pressure fuel line and roughly joined it back together, which was letting air in and consequently the fuel was draining back into the tank....

So, if you've managed to read and understand all this waffle I have a question, or two...

Can the PCM be removed from the car, sent away to a specialist for restoring back to default settings, ie. like it was when new?????

would this solve my issues and get the car running again and would it be worth the gamble?

My local Ford dealer said they would have to look at it in the car but couldn't guarantee anything., but I would have to get it lifted again and I'm running out of money and time with this car. I have spent over £1900 now trying to get it back to a decent state and only paid £2000 for it a year ago on a 56 plate.

My only other option is to remove all the good parts that I've fitted and possibly strip it out to try and get something back on it.

If it's a car compatible with Elmconfig you can request the as-built data in the program and reprogram to factory settings. Forscan can now do some configuration but not sure how deep that goes.

Hmmm, not sure I could do that with what I've got, but worthwhile checking it out, thank you.

I did have a chat with my neighbour the other day and he suggested that I might look into getting a  '1.6 Tdci Ecu Kit' off ebay and ditching the old one altogether.

Any thoughts on that?
