Forzen door locks

Featured Replies

2011 focus drivers keyless door lock freezes up in cold weather.

Tried wd40 etc into lock but it still freezes .

I think as the wd40 stuff doesn't/cant  get into the problem area it still freezes,  anyone had this problem recently and found a foolproof cure ?

Don't like using de-icer into locks as it tends to put water into the lock leaving it more prone to freezing up.

Could rainwater get into the lock workings and sit there and freeze when it gets cold ?

I would try cleaning you door seal of any debris and then adding some silicone spray to it and see if it still occurs it could be a bad seal letting in water and if that's the case it might need renewed. Also Im sure the door card needs pulled to gain proper access to the locking mechanism to lubricate it property and normal wd40 won't last this one would be much better  .https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/car-maintenance-accessories/maintenance-fluids-and-greases/grease/?542772560&0&cc5_150&gclid=Cj0KCQiAmITRBRCSARIsAEOZmr6CaL9IhMFgh8Tf8m1y1z7EEMJeK9GMYMj3gM0SagGhsvTBZmrHk68aAm8kEALw_wcB

Thanks FOCUE,

The door seals are OK nice and clean and no water inside them and not sticking to the door .

Tried that grease also , no better but getting it where it will help is 100% of the problem .

( Used to use that lithium grease out of a tub for lubricating water pumps, when water pumps needed and had a lubrication point. Many moons ago.)

I think if  I can get it where the water is and it forces the water out and it stops more  getting in then it should cure it , if water is the problem .

There was a post about the metal contracting and needing a new lock assy. to cure it.

I'll carry on hunting for a cure as long as the cold weather keeps up , no point if its mild.
