Handbrake slow to react?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just taken my Focus Zetec S (60) for its MOT . Needs a new tyre and pads on front so not to bad but a strange one was also added in the advisory. It says "Nearside Rear hand brake slow to react, inspection needed" . Now last time they mentioned the drums were a bit sticky to opened them up,greased them and all fine but no idea if this might be much the same or a bigger issues.Any ideas folks,or anyone had similar ? Any input would be appreciated.

Many thanks all and wish you all a very merry xmas :-)

Is it drums on a 1.8 petrol?  Thought anything above 1.6 was disc on mk2?

Tbh you'll have to remove the drum to check where the resistance is.  I assume it's not releasing quickly enough, as I can't see how a mechanical linkage could be slow to apply.  It might be solved with a clean and re grease, but it's also possibly the cable on that side getting stiff.
