I recently bought a 2002 1.8tdci Ghia estate. It's a great car but there are a couple of weird issues with it.

When the ignition is turned off, the temperature gauge and fuel gauge sit at half rather than returning to the bottom/normal off position. 

Also, the LCD with mileage and trip does not light up when the lights are on.

It is the dash that goes with the digital aircon and information screen interior. If I was to replace the speedo/rev counter part of the dash, is this likely to fix the problem, if so, is it simply a case of plugging in another unit or does it require crazy levels of electronics wizardry?
