Hi,

I have just bought a 1.0 2013 Ecoboost and it's pretty awful in the snow (I'm used to a big diesel).

Where can I get some steel rims, so I can stick some winter tyres on?

I was looking on https://www.mytyres.co.uk/ but I have no idea what FLH,STH and Turnier mean, or what the kW or ccm are.

ccm is the engine size (cubic centimetres - more usually shown as cc) 1600ccm = 1.6 litre.

KW is the power output of the engine.   I don't know why they are showing it in KW to confuse us. In UK we normally show as bhp. 1bhp is about 0.75 kw roughly so if car is 100bhp engine then kw = approx 75kw.

I don't know what the others are but as they seem to be showing engine size and power in ways that is more suited to mainland Europe terminology they may have done the same with the other stuff

Turnier = Wagon (Estate)
FLH = Fliessheck = Hatchback
STH = Stufenheck = Sedan (Saloon)

 

I have exactly the same car and I've had no problems in the snow.   Have RainSport 3 tyres on the fronts.

A large part of the performance of a car in snow/ice/heavy rain is down to the tyres not the car, after all the tyres ARE the only things in contact with the road.

Having experienced multiple big name brands of tyre and a few variants of cheapo LingLong "Ditchfinders" in poor weather, the RIGHT tyres make all the difference.

We don't get much snow in the West Country but we do get wet and muddy roads. I have recently gone for Michelin CrossClimate+ all round and I am very pleased with them

Thanks, yes I am tempted by the Cross Climates, a few friends have them.

They are pretty expensive and I think that we have made the decision to get a set of winter wheels and swap them over, like they do on the continent,
